Tallula

Boykin Spaniel

Boykin Spaniels are the state dog of South Carolina, where they were bred to hunt wild birds and other upland animals. I loved the poised focus of Tallula’s portrait, as if she had her eyes set on a winter dove in flight. They are also known for their rich brown coats and incredible silvery highlights. It’s not often that I work with animals this color-- the way the light creates a million different shades of warm embers throughout, is really stunning. I wanted to focus on the wide range of reds within her coat (some almost purple!), as well as the unique, curly texture of her ears.
