When working with animals, creativity is key. Every dog is different and they each require a special approach. Maintaining their attention is often the primary challenge, however, Luna had an advantage-- she had been trained to bark on command when her trainer said ‘sssssspeak.’ In order to keep her gaze fixed and her expressions dynamic, I aimed to capture the moments just before and after she barked. The result was an expressive portrait of Luna waiting to tell us something. And, though the moon-like orbs in her eyes were not intentional, they truly brought an element of magic to the image and to her name.
